Hand written Quran of Imam Husayn ibn ‘Ali and his son, Imam ‘Ali Zayn al-‘Abidin peace be upon them.

May we be sacrificed, O Bartender of the World!

This Wine of Love,

Carry on serving.

Fill two cups

And serve them to me.

O Bartender, whose Face is as a Rose

Give me one in your Name,

And one in Allah Name!

Grant the longing of this wounded heart

Give and give again.

Grant me some pain in the form of Love

Serve me with even one small sip,

But be it intoxicating.

Bestow only a drop

But pour me a river of drunkenness into that drop.

O Bartender, you be blessed

And your tavern blessed

Serve me a Wine

Whose intoxication lasts a lifetime!

Fill my cup

Fill me up

For I have not had my goblet filled yet.

O Bartender serve me more,

Serve me more Wine,

And yet more

And even more.

Serve me more,

And more!

Serve me with your own Hand,

Your tavern be blessed!

Serve me more

Serve me more.

Bring me more,

Look towards me

Look towards me O Bartender,

Keep your gaze fixed upon me O Bartender

And be not unmoved by me.

Let me be drunk today,

Make not excuses for tomorrow O Bartender,

Lest the Wine in my Goblet of Life be spill by tomorrow

And my life end.

Serve me more

Serve me more

Serve me more!

Said the Bartender,

“Tell Me, O Madman,

Which Wine shall you drink

And become drunk by?”

Will you drink the Wine Mansur (al-Hallaj) drank

And crucified himself with?

Will you drink that?

No he replied.

Will you drink the Wine Moses drank

Atop Mount Sinai

When he beheld Greatness?

No he replied.

Tabriz flayed himself after drinking

Will you drink this Wine?

No he replied.

Jesus raised the dead,

Would you drink from this Wine?

No he replied.

Job plundered the riches of patience

Will you drink from this Wine?

Sarmast beheaded himself

Will you drink this Wine?

No he replied.

“Then which Wine shall you drink?”

Replied the drunk,

“The Wine that was served at Karbala!

That Wine which was given to the Son of Haydar!

The Wine that Zahra’s Precious drank,

And gave his life for the pleasure of his Mawla!”

Wounds on his sides, his blood was flowing

The Shade of The Creator on his head

For three days was Husayn without water,

But he was the Grandson of Mustafa!

Why ask water from the enemies?

For he had already drunk from the Luminous Wine.

After drinking one cup of La ilaha,

After drinking one cup of La ilaha,

In the intoxication of Love was he beheaded!
